Missed Your Connecting Flight? You May Be Owed Up to €600

Missing a connecting flight is one of the most stressful travel experiences. But if it happened because your first flight was delayed, you have strong rights under EU law.

When Are You Entitled to Compensation?

You can claim compensation if:

  • Both flights were on the same booking (same PNR)
  • The first flight was delayed, causing you to miss the connection
  • You arrived at your final destination 3+ hours late
  • The flights were covered by EU Regulation EC 261

How Much Can You Claim?

The compensation is based on the distance to your final destination (not just the first leg):

| Total Journey Distance | Compensation | |----------------------|-------------| | Under 1,500 km | €250 | | 1,500–3,500 km | €400 | | Over 3,500 km | €600 |

Important: The "Single Booking" Rule

This only applies if both flights were booked together. If you booked two separate tickets, the airline is only responsible for the individual flight that was delayed.

What to Do at the Airport

  1. Go to the airline's transfer desk immediately
  2. Ask to be rebooked on the next available flight
  3. Request meal vouchers and hotel if applicable
  4. Keep all receipts for expenses
  5. Take photos of departure boards showing delays

Real-World Example

Sarah flew Oslo → Frankfurt → Tokyo. Her Oslo-Frankfurt flight was delayed by 2 hours, causing her to miss her Frankfurt-Tokyo connection. She arrived in Tokyo 6 hours late. She claimed and received €600 compensation.
