The route, day by day

Day 1–2: Lisbon

Day 3: Lisbon to Sagres (via Comporta)

Day 4: Algarve Coast (Lagos to Albufeira)

Day 5: Algarve to Évora

Head inland to Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage town in the Alentejo region, known for its Roman temple ruins and a genuinely striking Chapel of Bones. A good overnight stop as you loop back toward Lisbon.

Day 6–7: Douro Valley detour (or extend in Lisbon)

If time allows, the Douro Valley — Portugal's port wine region — is worth the extra driving day north. Terraced vineyards along the river make for one of the most scenic drives in the country. If you'd rather not add the distance, spend the extra time back in Lisbon or on a day trip to Sintra instead.
